Chapter 236 - 233: Never Give Her a Chance to Make a Comeback

Chapter 236 - 233: Never Give Her a Chance to Make a Comeback

Chloe Grant stopped crying and whined at Cedric Grant, "Dad, you actually hit me today over Clara, and you hit so hard. Not only that, you kept taking her side and blaming me. Don’t you love me anymore?"

As she spoke, she put on a pitiful, wronged expression.

She knew her father always fell for this act. After she finished speaking, she saw his expression soften and knew her trick had worked again.

Cedric Grant looked at her and sighed. She was, after all, his own daughter, whom he had spoiled for so many years. Seeing that half of her face was still red and swollen, how could he not feel a pang of pity?

He reached out and gently touched his daughter’s face, asking with concern, "Does it still hurt?"

Chloe Grant’s eyes immediately welled up with tears again. "It hurts."

"Put an ice pack on it when we get home. It’ll feel better."

"Mm-hmm."

"Chloe, I didn’t want to hit you, but you were just too thoughtless today. You knew perfectly well I told you not to mention that Clara isn’t my biological daughter, yet you went and brought it up anyway.

On top of that, you deliberately slandered her. If her reputation is ruined, how am I supposed to save face? How can the Grant Family ever hope to break into Novaria’s high society?"

Chloe Grant was still indignant and tried to defend herself. "Dad, it’s just that I saw how disrespectful she was to you, and I got angry and spoke without thinking. As for what happened last time...

Yes, I did deliberately slander her. But that was only because I felt it was so unfair to you! Every time I think about how you raised and doted on this girl from who-knows-where for over twenty years for nothing, I just wanted to get back at her and let out some of that frustration for you."

"Chloe, do you really think I enjoy having her around? The moment I see her, I’m reminded of what a fool I’ve been, raising someone else’s child for all those years. I don’t like her either. In fact, I despise her.

But no matter how much we despise her, we can’t show it right now. We have to be friendly and kind to her. Her status is different now—she’s Seth Quinn’s woman.

That’s why we have to make her accept us as family again. Only then can we get her to put in a good word for us with Seth Quinn. If we do that, maybe the ban against you will be lifted.

And with the Grant Family having a connection like this to the Quinn Family, will we still need to worry about business? Will we have to worry about establishing ourselves in high society?"

"Dad, who knows what their relationship is really like? Besides, even if she’s his woman, she’s probably just a fling, not his wife. You can’t possibly expect Seth Quinn to treat you like his father-in-law, can you?"

Even though she knew her father was only planning to be warm and caring toward Clara because of her connection to Seth Quinn, Chloe still didn’t want him to see Clara as a valuable asset and start giving her attention again.

She and her mother had struggled for over twenty years, waiting for her father to finally divorce Skylar Hayes and give them their rightful place in the family. How could she possibly let Clara have a chance to make a comeback and get the upper hand over them again?

"’Just a fling?’" Cedric Grant didn’t think so. "Really? Then why would Seth Quinn go against his own father just to insist on having you blacklisted, all for ’just a fling’?"

Chloe Grant was left speechless. Since her father had already made up his mind to use Clara for the Grant Family’s benefit, she couldn’t keep blindly opposing him. Doing so might only make him resent her.

’For now, all I can do is admit I was wrong. I’ll go home and discuss a plan with Mom.’

"Dad, I was wrong. I wasn’t thinking things through and acted too rashly. I’m sorry I made you come all this way for nothing."

"It’s alright. You’re my precious daughter; how could I bear to blame you? Just do as I say from now on." Cedric Grant reverted to his doting father persona. "Let’s go home. We need to get some ice on that face of yours right away."

"Okay. Thank you, Dad."
