Chapter 330: New City Lord
Chapter 330: New City Lord
Seeing the white beast collapse, Nina immediately ran over. Her mates, Lani, and the others quickly gathered around as well.
"What happened to it?" Lani asked with concern. "Is it alright?"
Nina crouched beside the tiny creature and channeled her ability into its body to examine its condition.
A frown slowly formed on her face.
"It appears to be severely injured, but something feels strange. My healing ability can’t seem to affect the damage at all."
Keil studied the beast thoughtfully.
"If I’m not mistaken, this may be the result of backlash."
He knelt beside them and examined the creature more closely.
"Injuries caused by backlash usually can’t be healed through ordinary healing abilities."
Nina glanced at the others.
"Grandfather, Father, Odian, do any of you know what kind of beast this is?"
Odian narrowed his eyes as he observed the creature.
"It resembles the legendary divine beast Bliz. However, I can’t be certain. That species supposedly vanished countless years ago."
Dian stared curiously at the tiny creature.
"Is it a spirit beast or a beastman?"
"I believe it’s a spirit beast," Keil replied. "Its aura doesn’t resemble that of a beastman."
Nina carefully lifted the small white beast into her arms.
"Let’s take it back with us first. It helped us today."
Without its assistance, defeating the Nether Beast leader would have been far more difficult.
And with so many monsters swarming the battlefield, even with Roro and Goldy fighting beside her, the battle would have dragged on for much longer. Countless additional beastmen might have died before victory was achieved.
Keil nodded.
"We’ll bring it back and see if we can find another way to help it recover."
At that moment, Aviel descended from the sky carrying the children.
The little ones immediately threw themselves at Nina.
Their eyes sparkled with admiration.
"Mother is amazing!"
They had watched the battle from above.
All those terrifying monsters had been unable to defeat their mother.
Nina smiled and gently ruffled their hair.
Nearby, Shion approached with several leaders and warriors from White Sand City.
"Keil. Lani. And Lady Nina."
His voice carried deep gratitude.
"Thank you for coming to White Sand City’s aid."
Lani shook his head.
"We simply couldn’t stand by while Nether Beasts slaughtered beastmen."
"Regardless," Shion replied sincerely, "you saved our city."
His gaze settled on Nina.
"Especially you. You are the most powerful female I have ever seen."
The admiration in his eyes was unmistakable.
When the final defensive line had fallen, it was Nina who had appeared and saved countless females and cubs from certain death.
It was also Nina who had stopped the Nether Beast leader and given White Sand City’s defenders a chance to survive.
Keil’s strength was comparable to his own.
But Nina had accomplished something none of them could.
She had slain the leader.
The other male warriors stepped forward one after another.
"Thank you."
"You saved us."
"We’ll never forget this."
Nina smiled faintly.
"It was nothing. I’m just glad we arrived in time."
Soon, the rescued females and children gathered around her as well.
Their eyes were filled with reverence.
"Goddess."
"Thank you for saving us."
"You saved all of us."
Nina immediately waved her hands in protest.
"I’m not a goddess. I’m just an ordinary female."
The women shook their heads.
"To us, you are a goddess."
"That’s right."
"If you hadn’t come, we would all be dead."
Nina laughed helplessly.
"Please don’t call me that. Just call me by my name. I’m Nina."
The females exchanged glances.
After a moment of discussion, one of them smiled.
"Then we’ll call you Lady Nina."
Simply using her name felt far too disrespectful.
She was incredibly powerful and had saved their lives.
Nina could only surrender.
"Fine. If that’s what makes you comfortable."
Shion stepped forward once more.
"Lady Nina, you’ve fought hard enough today. Please go and rest. We’ll handle everything here."
Lani nodded in agreement.
"Nina, leave the rest to us males. You’ve done more than enough."
Shion turned toward a female standing nearby.
"Bonnie, escort Lady Nina to the City Lord’s residence."
The woman immediately bowed.
"Understood."
Most of White Sand City lay in ruins, but the area surrounding the City Lord’s residence had survived relatively intact.
Bonnie approached respectfully.
"Lady Nina, please follow me."
Nina nodded. "Alright."
Cradling the small white beast in her arms, she followed Bonnie toward the residence.
Her mates accompanied her every step of the way.
The surviving females and cubs were also relocated to the nearby district where they could remain safe.
Meanwhile, Lani, Ridan, and the other warriors stayed behind to manage the aftermath of the battle.
Standing amid the devastated city, Shion slowly surveyed the destruction.
Collapsed buildings stretched as far as the eye could see.
Scorched streets were stained with blood.
The scars of war covered every corner of White Sand City.
A heavy sigh escaped him.
The city had been nearly destroyed.
How many years would it take to rebuild everything they had lost?
It took the better part of the day to clear away most of the Nether Beast corpses.
By nightfall, everyone had gathered within the relatively intact area surrounding the City Lord’s residence to rest and recover.
The atmosphere remained heavy despite their victory.
A male warrior eventually returned carrying Sharon’s body.
His expression was filled with grief.
"Lord Shion, the City Lord has... passed."
Silence settled over the gathering. Many of the beastmen lowered their heads, sorrow clouding their faces.
Their City Lord had fallen in battle.
Shion’s eyes reddened. His son was gone. For a long moment, he could not speak.
Finally, one of the males stepped forward.
"Lord Shion, now that the City Lord has sacrificed himself, we need to choose a successor as soon as possible. White Sand City needs someone to lead us through reconstruction."
Shion remained silent.
The reality was difficult to face.
Most of White Sand City’s strongest warriors had died during the siege. Those who remained were either severely injured or lacked the strength and authority necessary to govern an entire city.
As for himself, his injuries were serious. Even his crystal core had suffered damage. His strength would never be what it once was.
Yet White Sand City desperately needed a powerful leader.
Someone capable of guiding them through the dark days ahead.
"It’s a shame," another male said with a sigh. "Most of our strongest warriors are gone."
A different beastman turned toward Shion.
"Lord Shion, perhaps you should take the position."
Before Shion could respond, several females exchanged glances.
Their thoughts had already drifted elsewhere. Their eyes gradually turned toward Nina.
Lady Nina was powerful. Far more powerful than anyone present.
One of the females hesitantly stepped forward.
"I... I would like to nominate Lady Nina."
"I agree." Another female immediately spoke up.
Soon, more voices joined in. One after another, females began expressing their support.
Shion looked toward Nina thoughtfully.
There was no denying her strength.
During the battle, she had remained calm, decisive, and completely in control.
She had single-handedly turned the tide of war.
A male warrior frowned.
"But she’s a female. She’s not even a member of the Sea Clan."
Before anyone else could answer, Bonnie stepped forward.
"What does that matter?"
Her voice carried surprising conviction.
"Isn’t the current ruler of Barbarian City a female? Everyone knows Barbarian City is thriving now. Lady Nina is stronger than all of us. Why shouldn’t she become City Lord?"
Shion lowered his gaze.
He had heard the same stories.
Barbarian City’s ruler was indeed a female. And by all accounts, the city had prospered under her leadership.
After a moment of thought, he nodded.
"I agree with Bonnie."
His voice was steady.
"Lady Nina may not belong to the Sea Clan, but she can command the power of the ocean itself. In that regard, she is no different from us."
He looked around at the gathered crowd.
"More importantly, she saved White Sand City."
"If someone as powerful as Lady Nina leads us, I believe our city can rise again."
The surrounding males fell silent. No one could refute his reasoning.
The truth was simple. Nina was stronger than all of them. Far stronger.
And every one of them had witnessed it with their own eyes.
Eventually, another male nodded.
"I agree."
More voices followed.
"We agree as well."
Soon, support spread throughout the crowd.
Shion rose to his feet.
"Very well. I’ll speak with Lady Nina and see whether she is willing to accept the position."
A short while later, he found Nina.
Stopping before her, he bowed respectfully.
"Lady Nina, the people of White Sand City would like you to become our City Lord. Would you be willing to accept?"
Nina blinked in surprise. "Me? Why?"
Shion answered honestly.
"Because we no longer have anyone powerful enough to fill that role."
Nina hesitated. Before she could respond, Lani stepped forward.
"Nina, I don’t think accepting would be a bad thing."
He smiled.
"There are more advantages than disadvantages. Sea Blue City can help support White Sand City’s reconstruction as well."
Nina considered the proposal carefully.
Finally, she asked, "What if I can’t remain here permanently? I’ll have to leave White Sand City eventually. Would that still work?"
Shion nodded without hesitation. "Of course. The reconstruction itself can be handled by us."
What White Sand City truly needed was not someone to oversee every detail.
They needed a symbol.
A leader powerful enough to unite everyone and inspire confidence.
Among beastmen, strength earned respect more effectively than anything else.
And if that leader was Nina, no one would even consider challenging her authority.
The gap between her strength and theirs was simply too vast.
There was another consideration as well.
Her close relationship with Sea Blue City meant that White Sand City would gain valuable allies during the rebuilding process.
After losing so many powerful warriors, they desperately needed outside support.
Otherwise, neighboring cities or ambitious tribes might attempt to absorb them before they had a chance to recover.
After a moment, Nina nodded.
"Alright. Then let’s discuss reconstruction plans later."
The crowd immediately broke into smiles.
Relief and excitement spread through White Sand City’s survivors.
They had gained a new City Lord. And not just any City Lord. They had gained one of the strongest beastmen they had ever seen.
Just as the matter seemed settled, a figure hurried through the crowd.
Asgor stopped in front of Shion.
For the first time since the battle ended, genuine panic was visible on his face.
"Shion." His voice trembled slightly. "Where is Helly? Do you know where she is?"
He had searched throughout the city. He had looked among every surviving female. Yet the face he sought was nowhere to be found.
An uneasy feeling tightened around his heart. A terrible possibility slowly emerged from the depths of his mind.
For years, he had convinced himself that he hated her.
Yet now, faced with the possibility of losing her forever, he finally understood the truth.
Beneath all that resentment, he had never stopped loving her.
