Chapter 114: The First Mission
Chapter 114: The First Mission
Raiden walked inside the jungle while following his new teammates.
"Keep your eyes sharp at all times. Remember, our mission is not to fight but to gather information and gather the resources." John said as he walked in front with his partner Terran, a pitch-black panther.
Looking at the Terra Beast, Raiden noticed it was completely silent, virtually making no sound when walking.
"Got it." Raiden looked down at his new watch, which displayed a holographic map, their current location, as well as an X marked on it a few kilometres away.
Walking through the jungle, Raiden felt it was different from the jungle in his backyard. This one felt more raw and primal.
He constantly kept his senses sharp at all times, keeping an eye out for danger.
His other two female teammates were the same, just they were more relaxed.
"Woolie!!"
Woolie, on the other hand, felt right at home. He kept running back and forth happily, sometimes climbing up a tree, sometimes sniffing a mushroom, sometimes making his way back to Raiden. He was having the time of his life.
Looking at the happy sheep, Raiden somehow couldn’t muster any seriousness from inside him. His antics somehow broke all the serious tension in the atmosphere.
"Raiden, look out! 7 O’clock!!"
Jonah shouted the warning, making him twist his head back a little. Her Terra Beast partner, a Black Eagle, was already racing towards him in rescue.
He turned it around just in time to see a 5-meter python lunging straight at him.
"Shaa!!"
Before it could get any closer, a sword of light appeared on top of its head and fell, impaling it through its head, nailing it in place.
It thrashed about for a second before going completely still.
"Sha Sha!!~" Rai Rai~ I did it. I defeated the enemy.

Neva jumped down from his head into his arms, with its eyes turned up, looking at him expectantly, as if looking for praise.
Raiden looked at the very much dead Terra Beast before looking at Neva again. He felt that she was slipping out of his hand already and walking the destruction path.
"Very good, Neva!! You are the best, protecting me like that!! Just keep an eye out for the next time, okay? Let your big brother, Woolie, fight. You just enjoy the sights."
He patted her head with a smile. It was still not too late. He must change her habits. As for Woolie, he had already given up on him.
That sheep was too far gone on the battle path that Raiden stopped caring about it. If he wanted to fight, let him fight, but Neva must not learn such habits.
Just as Raiden was talking to his Terra Beasts, the other three people were looking at him from a distance.
"Brother John, I think I just realised why he can become son-in-law for the Bigg Boss lady. He is clearly a freak of nature, just like her." Jonah commented quietly, causing the silent Sydney to nod along with her.
"Don’t talk about your new teammate like that, okay?? Let’s keep on moving." Despite saying so, John felt a feeling of fear go through his heart. He can’t believe he tried to bully this guy in the beginning.
He looked at the dead python in front of him and the sword of light that materialised on top of his head.
When he tried to imagine himself as the enemy and wondered if he could dodge the sword of light or not, the answer came out surprisingly as a No.
Of course, being a Golden Tier Battle Master, he had plenty of ways to ensure his safety, but this still sent chills down his spine.
"Good job, Raiden!! Your bracelet has already recorded your contributions!! Anytime you fight and kill a hostile wild Terra Beast, it will automatically record your contribution and give you ample AP. Let’s keep moving if you want to make it back before nighttime."
John said loudly as he picked up the pace once again.
"Not bad, rookie ~ I remember my first time. I was frozen, not like you." Jonah slid up next to him as she talked.
"Haha, thank you, it’s nothing much, just my natural talent," Raiden spoke without an ounce of shame, earning a weird look from her.
"So, this... Red Dandelion plant, what is it?"
"Red Dandelion is a plant that only grows naturally in the wilderness. It is used to create various types of medicine and drugs for battle masters. Our only job is to scout the location and see how many enemies there are, and if possible, extract the plant. Normally, we don’t do this kind of thing, but there was an emergency announcement that ’it’ was coming. So we need to stock up fast."
Jonah’s face turned serious as she talked about it.
"It?? What is ’it’??" Raiden asked, all confused.
"You know, It!! The Beast Horde!! It was spotted a few thousand kilometres ahead. At the rate it is moving, we have a few months, tops, before it hits us. We need to clear out as many hostile Terra Beasts as possible and stock up before it does." Jonah explained patiently, but the tension in her eyes betrayed how she was feeling.
"What? A Beast Horde?!" Raiden shouted loudly, attracting looks from the other people on the team.
"Shush!! Keep your voice down, okay?! We are in the wild. You don’t want to attract attention." Jonah gestured with her fingers.
"But it’s a beast horde!! How do you expect me to keep quiet?" Raiden hissed back quietly.
A normal person might not know about any other thing, but every single person who lived in a city knew what a beast horde was.
Beast Horde, as its name implied, was an endless swarm of Terra Beasts attacking a city. Every time one happened, all the citizens had to run and evacuate to a bunker.
Raiden vividly remembered it happening three times throughout his life. And every time it happened, the city was covered in wails of sorrow.
It was the single most tragic attack that wild Terra Beasts did on humanity regularly, and this time, Raiden was standing in front and centre of it!!
