"But first... focus on getting stronger."
Her form scattered further, almost gone. Only her voice remained in the empty space.
"And now..."
"Wake up."
The world around Kelly shattered like glass. Darkness rushed in. And the next moment, he opened his eyes.
"HUAHHH!"
The sound of deep, ragged breathing tore through the silence as Kelly’s eyes snapped open. Air rushed violently into his lungs as if he had been drowning moments before. His chest heaved up and down, each breath sharp and desperate. For a moment he couldn’t even move, his body trembling as he tried to steady himself so much so that he totally ignored the shrieking voice of someone beside him. Cold sweat covered his skin. His heart pounded wildly against his ribs, echoing loudly in his ears.
His ears felt numb a silent hum, the only thing he could listen he felt disoriented, Kelly dragged in another breath slower this time but the lingering pressure in his chest made it feel heavy, almost painful. His vision blurred for a second before finally stabilizing. However, his thoughts once again churning back to the moment that already passed, the conversation, the woman. the trial. Everything rushed back into his mind at once. He clenched his teeth slightly, trying to calm his breathing. And in between someone screamed just loudly enough to get his attention.
"THE FUCK, STOP IGNORING ME IDIOT"
The moment Kei’s voice echoed, Kellys newly developed predatory instincts honed towards her will all their might his focus subconsciously becoming sharp and he looked at Kei with murder in his eyes. Eyes so cold that could freeze time itself his aura like a beast without even his intent lashed out on her with Killing intent something even Kelly didn’t understand something unfamiliar and not obviously his.
Kei’s POV
"HUAHHH!"
The sound was so loud it felt less like a human voice and more like the growl of a wild beast. It instantly jolted Kei awake. The sleep she had fought so hard to fall into vanished in a single second. It was so sudden that it felt like her heart nearly leaped out of her chest. For a brief moment, her body forgot how to breathe, and that single second stretched unbearably long. Her eyes widened in panic as she quickly looked around, her instincts screaming danger. After a moment, she managed to collect herself. No one was attacking her. No immediate threat. She was safe.
Only after confirming that did she finally turn toward the source of the terrifying noise.
’It’s him... this bastard. I nearly got a heart attack because of him.’
After confirming it was only Kelly, Kei let out a long sigh of relief.
But the moment that relief settled, the irritation she had been holding back came rushing in.
Being scared awake like that had nearly shortened her lifespan.
She opened her mouth, ready to unleash a storm of profanities at him, but the words stopped at her throat.
Kelly’s breathing was ragged and uneven, each breath sounding heavy and strained. Sweat covered his face, dripping down like he had just run for his life.
Seeing that, she swallowed the insults back down.
Trying her best to sound calm—or at least what she considered calm—she called out to him.
"Hey."
"..."
Only the sound of his labored breathing answered her.
It was as if her voice had been swallowed by the silence.
Thinking maybe her tone had been too soft, she tried again.
"Kelly."
"..."
Still nothing.
Her brows twitched.
She tried once more.
"Are you okay?"
"..."
The same response.
Nothing.
This time, she raised her voice.
"You there?"
"..."
Still silence.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Each failed attempt chipped away at her patience, her irritation burning hotter and hotter. First, all the stress from everything happening around her... then being jolted awake, thinking she was about to die... and now this.
That was it.
She finally snapped.
"THE FUCK, STOP IGNORING ME, IDIOT!"
Which brought her to her current predicament. The moment Kelly looked at her, Kei froze, all of her anger vanishing in an instant. The reason was simple his eyes. Those blue, ocean-like eyes, so deep that their end couldn’t be seen. Back on Earth, she had seen plenty of people with blue eyes famous celebrities, handsome actors, stunning models but this was different. Kelly’s eyes were different. They looked as if they were shining like precious jewels, glowing with an unnatural brilliance that pulled her in without permission. For a brief moment, she felt her heartbeat skip. Her strange obsession with shiny things whispered softly in her mind like a tempting lullaby, drawing her deeper into that endless blue. But that fascination quickly turned into pure terror.
Because what came next... she couldn’t understand. First came the chills, cold, sharp, and sudden, running through her entire body like ice crawling beneath her skin. Then, the longer she stared into those increasingly cold eyes, the stronger the feeling became. Every instinct in her body screamed at her run. Run as far away as possible. Escape the beast standing before you. For a moment, she forgot it was Kelly. All she felt was the presence of a predator, and herself? Nothing more than prey. Utterly weak. Utterly worthless. And most importantly an annoyance. Kei tried to speak, but her voice was gone. Her hands trembled violently, her legs refusing to move. It felt as if all her deepest fears had suddenly come alive and wrapped themselves around her throat. She couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t scream. She couldn’t even properly feel her own body. For what felt like an eternity, she stood there, trapped in pure, overwhelming terror. She had never felt fear this raw before. What Kei didn’t know was that this was the direct manifestation of killing intent something Kelly had subconsciously released without even realizing it. Even he himself didn’t understand what he had done, nor why Kei now stood before him like a trembling lamb before a monster.
It took some time for Kelly to come back to his senses. He felt surprised by his own bodily reactions, unable to understand what had just happened. All he knew was that Kei was standing there, trembling all over, completely terrified. It even took him a moment to realize that it was him she was so afraid of. He didn’t understand why but seeing her like that made him want to smile and reassure her. However, it felt like his face had frozen solid, his cheeks refusing to move even an inch.
’What’s going on... ahhhh... just move.’
